Attorney Practice in Isleta Tribal Court

Attorneys who wish to practice in Isleta Tribal Court must submit the following: Attorney Application to Practice, certificate of good standing from the New Mexico Supreme Court, check or money order for the $500 annual fee.  Attorneys or persons representing the Pueblo of Isleta or employed by the Pueblo to provide legal representation to indigent persons are exempt from this fee.
Upon receipt of these documents, a Judge will administer an oath to the applicant to uphold the Pueblo of Isleta Tribal Constitution and Laws of the Pueblo.  Authorization to practice is valid for one year.  Attorneys must renew their authorization to practice each year by updating all information and remitting the annual fee.

Spokespersons/Advocates

The Pueblo of Isleta allows persons with cases pending in Isleta Tribal Court to be represented by a spokesperson who is not a licensed attorney.  Spokespersons are NOT required to submit an application to practice or pay the annual fee of $200, if such person does not engage in the regular practice of law before the Isleta Tribal Court.  However, if a spokesperson engages in the regular practice of law before the Tribal Court and assesses any type of fee on a criminal defendant, the spokesperson must submit an application, certificate of good standing from the Court and a check or money order for the Annual Fee of $200.
