Welcome to the Johnson-O'Malley Program (JOM)

Picture
The JOM Program is a Federally funded program that is contracted through the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE).  Each year the Pueblo of Isleta must renew the contract.

Eligibility

We are currently contracted to provide services to ALL Native American students enrolled in the Los Lunas Public School District and only the Isleta students enrolled in Albuquerque Public Schools.  Students must be 1/4 or more Native American blood OR be a member of a Federally Recognized Tribe.  Students must have a Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) on file with the JOM Office.

Indian Education Committee Members

Federal mandate requires that we have an Indian Education Committee (IEC).  The Indian Education Committee has the responsibility of assisting with the preparation and execution of the annual JOM budget.  They are the voice and decision makers for all services provided to eligible Native American students.  Currently, we have four of five IEC positions filled, with the most recent vacancy occurring in January 2013:
President - Karen Roybal
Secretary - Odessa Montoya
Member - Diane Lujan
Member - Karen Olguin
Member - Vacant

Tutoring Services

The goal of the tutorial program is to create independent successful learners.  We do not offer homework help.  Students may be referred to the JOM Program for services.  The parent is required to meet with the Academic Coach, Brandon Tewaheftewa for an initial meeting.  The student will be assessed and a plan of action will be created to address the academic needs of the student.  The program will consist of one-hour sessions, two times a week for a six week period.  Communication between the Academic Coach and the student's teacher will also be incorporated throughout the tutorial process.
